Fiction
The stories here are works of fiction. Names, characters, places, organizations, and events are products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or to actual events is coincidental.
AI disclosure
I use AI tools when I write and edit. This section says what they do and what they don’t. It follows a suggestion by Hugh Howey that the copyright page should tell readers about AI use.
What comes from me
Every story starts with a shape I describe: the premise, the people in it, the structure, the turns, and the ending. I decide what a story is about, what each character wants, what happens and in what order, what stays unsaid, and where it stops. I write the prose, and I revise it until it says what I mean.
The meaningful decisions are mine. That covers plot, character, form, voice, and the final wording of anything you read here.
Where AI tools help
- Build-out. Once I’ve laid out a story’s shape, I sometimes have an AI tool draft material inside it: a scene I’ve outlined, the routine parts of a document, a passage between two beats I’ve already fixed. I treat that as raw material. I rewrite it, keep what fits, and throw out what doesn’t. Nothing appears as a tool produced it.
- Tone checking. I ask whether a passage holds the voice I set for it, and whether a line lands colder, warmer, or flatter than I intended.
- Consistency checking. I use AI tools to catch drift: names, ages, dates, numbering, the rules of a story’s world, and details in one section that contradict another.
What they don’t do
AI tools don’t decide what a story is about or how it ends, and they don’t have the last word on a sentence. When a tool suggests a change, I choose whether to take it. Nothing goes up on this site until I’ve read it, revised it, and approved it.
If a story ever includes AI-generated text kept as generated, for a purpose the story needs, I will say so at the top of that story and mark the passages.
The site itself was also built with help from an AI coding assistant.
AI training
