How I use AI tools
I use AI tools when I write and edit, and I’d rather say so plainly than leave readers to guess.
The short version: I describe each story’s shape, write the prose, and make every decision that matters, including plot, character, form, voice and the final wording. AI tools help me build out passages inside a shape I’ve already set, check whether the tone holds, and catch inconsistencies in names, dates and details. I rewrite what they draft, and I decide whether to take any change they suggest.
The full statement is in the AI disclosure on the copyright page. You can reach that page any time from “All rights reserved” in the footer.
I know that for some readers, any AI involvement is a reason to stop reading. That’s a fair choice, and I’d rather you make it knowing how the work is made than find out later. If that’s where you land, no hard feelings.
For another voice on this, Hugh Howey has written about putting AI disclosures on the copyright page. He comes down on the other side for his own work: he doesn’t use AI at all, not even to catch typos. We agree that readers should be told.
